2018 Self Care Goals & Tips

Hey lovelies - it's been quite a while since I posted. I've been feeling pretty uninspired and demotivated the past while, but I'm finally back with some fresh inspo and ideas.

First off, Happy New Year! I hope u had a good one and ur feeling nice n refreshed after the festive period.

Coming into 2018, one of my top resolutions is self-care and self-love.
Especially at this time, it's really easy to be hard on yourself. You feel like you should be hitting the gym 24/7 and making your life and mindset instantly better.

I'm v. guilty of this myself. The whole 'new year, new me' thing is grating, but it still niggles in the back of my mind.
Ofc it's okay to want to improve, but it's rly important to remember that it's not just going to happen straight away.

That's where self-care and self-love come in.

This year I'm looking to lose some weight and feel more comfortable in my own skin, as well as just generally improving my lifestyle and productive output in general.
But that's not going to happen if I keep beating myself up for everything I don't do right.

Coming from this perspective, a few good self-care goals are:

  • Remembering that every little step is progress, no matter how small
  • Teaching yourself that you're enough exactly as you are, and you don't need to change to be worth anything
  • You're not your mistakes - mistakes are going to happen, and it doesn't made you bad or any less of a person.

Keeping ur goals short and sweet makes them easier to keep in mind, and also means they can be applied generally rather than to just one or two things.

Sometimes when u got a bunch a stuff to do, making separate goals for each one can get messy, and suddenly everything feels super overwhelming. This isn't what we want, so try and just have a few that can help across the board!

After you've got your self-care goals all set out, it's good to have some tips handy to help keep you going.
You might have a lot going on, but knowing your limits and taking time out to look after yourself is defo a must.

These can be things that help you relax, feel organised, self affirmation etc. the list goes on.
Essentially just whatever makes you feel good.

There's so so many self-care tips our there, so if you're stumped for ideas then just get ur research on.

To get you started tho, here's a few things that I like to do to refresh and keep me feelin' myself.

  1. Hygiene, hygiene, hygiene. If you're feeling shitty, then take some time to have a shower/bathe, brush your teeth and wash your face. I guarantee this will make you feel a bit better, especially on the days where it feels hard to just get out of bed.
Also, try putting some music on and having a candlelit shower. It's super relaxing.
  2. Write a list of positive things in your life. Write down personal achievements, people you love, good days you've had with them and on your own, things you love. u get the gist.
  3. Do smth you love. If makeup's ur thing, do a look. If you like drawing, draw something. Or take a whole day in bed to read a book.
  4. Change your bed. There's nothing like lying in a freshly made bed. It's just so GOOD.
  5. Make a cup of coffee/tea/hot choc, and just sit down and be in your own head for a while. Sometimes things are just rly hectic, and you just need to take some time to feel ur feelings.  Have a cry if you want, it might be just what u need.

The list is endless, but I don't wanna tire u out, so hopefully these 5 will get you off to a good start!

If you have any self-care tips of ur own, then leave them in a comment - I'd love to hear them!

  1. My self care tips are a lot about the space you inhabit; keeping your room/flat/house clean is a must for a less cluttered mind. If you can't do much, just do 1 thing - clear out the rubbish out of one handbag, put one dish in the sink, move one thing back to its place. Also the 2 minute rule! If you see something that needs done in terms of tidying that could be done in 2 minutes or less, do it right now. If not, feel free to postpone it to later. There you go!

  2. Some good tips there! Thank you for the great blog post

  3. Fab goals and tips for 2018! These are brilliant. I agree with the higyine one, it always makes me feel a little better when I have a bath and feel super clean. Changing my bed is always a must when I feel down, makes me feel good.
